Deadline!

Eeek, the deadline seems to be upon us!

Sorry for the lack of reminders etc. Am moving house in a few days time and things are just crazy!

Anyway, if you can send songs to dwsc@ymail.com within the next 24 hours, I will get them posted on here when I get home tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to this one. :) (although preparing to move house so might not actually manage)

The deadline is the 26th of June.

Happy Writing! :-)

Song Contest # 2

Sorry for the lateness. :(

Okay, the only idea for a prompt that I've come up with (and I'm not really sure how to put it in words is...)

Since we are all spread out geographically, I thought it would be neat to write a song based on local folklore or history or just inspired by something in your part of the world.

It doesn't have to tell a story in a narrative sense. It can be abstract if you wish. I'm leaving this open to interpretation.

So, uh...there ya go. Good luck!

Tools

While we wait for <user name="rustingwillpowr"> to give us the next theme, I have a question, and I'd really appreciate help with this.

What and how many softwares do you guys use to record, mix, edit, convert and what-have-you your songs? Are these honestly free? Is there one single software that can be used to record straight from the microphone and save it in MP3 straightaway, without fuss or hassle??

Thank you very much.

DWSC #1 - the result

And the winner is ...

[personal profile] rustingwillpowr!! :-)

Well done on a fine song.

This means that you get to choose the next prompt. But no rush, you have til Friday to think of something, if you haven't already.

Either PM it to me or post it yourself, whichever you're more comfortable with. :)

Don't vote for yourself! ;p

Apologies for being a day late on this. My daughter was competing in the local Mod this weekend and then I had to remember how to work various bits of software!

Deadline tomorrow!

Well, I hope some of you have had a more productive 2 weeks than I have!

I have an excuse though - I've been mad busy trying to sort out a new place to live! But I did manage to write a chorus which is better than nothing and I will record roughly tomorrow.

You can email your songs to dwsc@ymail.com
If the file is too big, try YouSendIt and I will do my best to put all the songs (including [personal profile] awen's video) into one post on Saturday for voting.

I look forward to hearing the songs! :)

My Submission, "Waterwise"

I'm a stubborn bitch. I didn't manage to learn how to properly record, glue, edit, mix, convert and embellish on time with all the four or five softwares necessary, but I'm more than determined to at least submit my song. I know I don't play well enough, and my voice sounds weird, but hey! At least I've managed to submit it in some way.

Song: Waterwise
Singer-songwriter: Awen
Lyrics:

Verse 1:
No hands to hold here
No sign, no sight
Where will I go from here
Am I wrong or am I right?

Chorus:
River runs, flows on
Water finds the Sea

Verse 2:
Moment is Burning
In fire and glow
Blinding lights playing tricks
Fae lights calling, I won't go

Bridge:
Path is Water, waterwise

Apologies to our wonderful contest organiser, whose rules I've broken, but tomorrow I have a flight very early on, and I still have got loads to do, including packing the bag, before going to bed.

I hope you enjoy! I did!!!

Song Submission - dwsc@ymail.com

Having given it some thought, I think the easiest way (for everyone but me! haha) to do this would be if you send the songs to me at dwsc@ymail.com
If the file is too big for email, you can use YouSendIt or similar.

The file name should include your DW username and song title and if you could include the lyrics (and copyright/CC info if you wish) in the email, that'd be grand.

This way I can put all the songs into one post, which will keep things neat and easy to deal with.

MP3 format would be best. If anyone needs a free file converter, here is the one I use ...

Switch Sound File Converter

Happy songwriting!! (I don't know about you, but I'm struggling! lol)

Song Contest #1

Well, I think we have enough members, and nobody has objected to the two-week limit, so let's get started!

I'll set the first one but from then on (at least for a while to see how it works) it'll be the winner of the vote who sets the next one.

I must admit I was starting to think I was going to need inspiration to find the inspiration!! lol. But shortly after waking up this morning, my eyes were lazily gazing at my bookshelf and the following title just jumped out at me.

LED BY DESTINY

So there we have it. Write a song inspired by the above phrase. That's it. I'm not going to specify a genre or anything else. Best to keep it simple while there are so few of us, I think.

The songs should be submitted by FRI JUNE 5th, preferably in MP3 format (so that I can add them all to an embeddable playlist to include in a post with the poll). And, remember, they don't have to be finished masterpieces. :)
still need to figure out the best way to organise submitting the songs but there's time!

In the meantime, if you want to post to keep us updated on your progress, or talk about other songwriting-related things, go ahead! There's no point in having a community, if we don't use it. :)

Questions

How many members do you think we will need before we start with the first song?

Do you think two weeks is a good length of time to set per song?

What do you think of having a full week in between songs for discussion and voting?

Welcome!

Hello, thanks for having a look. I hope you will decide to join up as it will be a lot of fun.

I'm Heather, the community admin. I'm a 33 year old lapsed songwriter from Scotland and I am hoping we can have a nice friendly, helpful community of songwriters here. It will be good for those who are profilic writers as well as for those of us in need of motivation and encouragement to write!!

I will start the first contest as soon as there are enough members.

In the meantime, please feel free to introduce yourself! :)
